✤ About this site

Welcome, former and present neighbors of the Pewaukee/Waukesha area.

Hi, I’m Joy Buslaff. My parents, Mary and Rolland Buslaff, moved into the old Quarry School in 1960, and I began attending the new Quarry Elementary that same year. (Sadly, the new school had a short life. It was demolished in the 1970s to make way for American TV & Appliance.)

In 2001 my husband, Dan Savin, and I began renovating the old stone schoolhouse. We expect to put the finishing touches on the job in 2010, at which time we would like to begin hosting reunions.

Please use this site to post your reminiscences and photos from your school days and to coordinate meet-ups with fellow Quarry School alums. If you’re unsure how to go about posting here, please feel free to e-mail your text or photos to quarryschool@earthlink.net or write to:

  1. I just found this site and wished I would have known about it for the reunion in December. I went to Quarry School for grades 6-8 in 1961-63. Mr. Cate was one of my teachers. Janice Grundman was there, as well as Dale Fredrickson, Linda Wenzel, Pedro Garcia, Mary Farina, the Powers brothers and the Evans brothers, as well as John Gaffney and Margaret something. I remember you, Joy Buslaff, and your fabulous house that had previously been the school. I also remember the house under the bridge where the VanderSterrens lived. I knew their son, Keis, in high school. There are wonderful memories from that time.

    • Big hug to you, Dorothy! Thanks for dropping in here. You’re always welcome to come back to the old neighborhood, too, and wander around the school. If I can pull things together, I’d like to host an all-encompassing reunion here in 2014. Cross your fingers — and please stay in touch. Gratefully, Joy

  2. HI JOY. MY SISTER DEANNA WAS TELLING ME ABOUT YOUR WEBSITE AND I JUST HAD TO CHECK IT OUT. IT WAS SO MU
CH FUN SEEING THE PICTURES AND LOOKING AND READING ABOUT THE SCHOOL. I WILL ALWAYS CHERISH MY TIME ATTENDING QUARRY SCHOOL. I LOVE AND MISS YOUR MOM AND DAD! THEY WERE SO SWEET AND KIND TO ME AND I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT! TAKE CARE AND HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY! LOVE LINDA WENZEL.

    • Fabulous to hear from you, Linda. Your family sticks well in my mind, too. I’ll send you an email. ~ J.B.

  3. Hi Joy
Love the site. The photos of the schools restoration are wonderful…and as you can imagine, quite inspiring. Love the “chic” new walk through shower, if we tried to do that at the “Homestead”, we would probably end up with an indoor pool; which we would not want:)
    Take care
